Allen Jones (born 1937) is one of the most important representatives of the British Pop Art movement. His work was part of the internationally renowned exhibition Documenta in Kassel, Germany.
At the end of the 1960s, Jones became well-known for his provocative, life-sized and realistic female figures, which turn women into items of human furniture, e.g. the set "Table", "Chair" and "Hat Stand". Besides these furniture sculptures, Jones intensively deals with painting, graphic, design as well as the creation of stage settings.
On the occasion of Allen Jones’ 75th birthday in 2012, this retrospective with its 90 paintings, graphics, drawings, sculptures and a film performance provides a broad insight into the multisided work of Allen Jones. High-class loans from several private and public collections are presented beside art works from the outstanding collection of the artist himself.
