The photographer Dennis Stock, born in New York in 1928, became internationally known at the end of the 1950s with his photographs of James Dean. The exhibition, comprising 119 b/w photographs provided an outline of his work in the years between 1951-1971. Dennis Stock accompanied the shooting of numerous films and his pictures capture the world of fame and stardom. He documented the American jazz scene and its great personalities, as well as the classical American myths.
The dream of liberty, mobility and individuality - „the American way of life“ - is the consistent subject of his work. His photographs depict the world of the American counter culture: colourful festivals in the Southern States, hippies, bikers, and the most diverse ways of life and culture.
