200 first class exhibits illustrated the life and work of the great Corsican. Paintings by the important French painters Jacques Louis David (1748 - 1825) and François Baron Gérard (1770 - 1837) identified the various stages of his glittering ascent to power and fame, but also the dark sides of his rule and defeats. Pictures and engravings depicted his fame as well as the heavy losses endured in his campaigns and battles.
Precious equipment, clocks, porcelain and gold works from Napoleon‘s immediate environment afforded the viewer insight into the splendid style of the Napoleonic era. Important paintings and sculptures depicted the imperial family and the marshals of France.
